Interview with Miki Sarroca
“Miki Sarroca is an ordinary girl with an ordinary life, doing ordinary things.”
Kinda.
On the weekends she’s actually a super hero fighting evil!
Just kidding! She’s the girl next door that you never wanted to hang out with because she was weird. Too bad your parents made you.
So Miki, what exactly do you do?
I’m so glad you asked~
I do many wondrous life fulling activities that make my heart flutter like a butterfly in the breeze~ You didn’t understand that? Oh…well, let me break it down for ya.
I am an aspiring singer first and foremost. I feel that my singing kick started it all…I’m getting off track. I am also a padawon model and cosplayer. I say “padawon” because I am obviously not a jedi yet. I’m still learning. Besides that, I’m a make-up and nail enthusiast and love styling wigs.
Why do you think singing started everything?
Well, singing came first. I guess I can’t say that it really “started” everything…but it’s definitely what got the most attention. I started complying when I was in 9th grade. Just another 14 year old at a convention with a bought costume. Forgettable. It wasn’t until I started using my first talent to catch peoples attention. I started going to auditions for conventions and their shows and was, almost instantly, accepted into their family. I blame it on my small frame. I’m sure they feel the need to protect anything smaller than them. The might enjoy hoarding lolitas.
How did you get more into cosplay?
Well first, I’ll explain that, in 9th grade, I was far from what I look like now. Imagine a…well…I’m not sure what you should imagine…just..something not appealing. Like avocado. Anyways, it was like in those movies where the geek finds their circle. I was that geek…I’m loosing track of this. It started out superficial and vain, but became so much more. I think what got me the most was making tons of friends. Friends that do the same thing…how could you leave that? So I stayed.
Got more involved…and loved every minute of it.
What is your favorite part of cosplaying?
Not conventions or anything. Just costly.
I would definitely say…The props. Although I do prefer really girly cosplays, I can’t help but love all the experiences that I’ve had when doing a more…masculine character. I like to pretend I’m a hard ass and a butch. ;D If you haven’t caught on, the girly costume rarely come with cool weapons.
I’ve been told cosplay gets old and tiresome, did you ever go through that? How did you combat it?
I definitely went through a phase of…fatigue. I was a single cosplayer for a while and that gets tiring. It’s a better experience when you’re in a group. Also, just going to conventions didn’t cut it anymore so~ I started to volunteer and work for some local conventions like Expcon, which is in St. Augustine. I think that is the one that I’m most active in. I act, dance, and sing to entertain there as well as host my very own contest. Not to mention I’m the super cuddly mascot. ;D
You’re getting weird. How did you get into modeling?
I feel that modeling and complying go hand in hand. Every cosplayer wants images that show off their cosplays in the best way. That often involves professional photographers and the works. This had always interested me. I used to be a super cute toddler who loved the camera, i grew into an angst pre-teen who hated it, than grew into…a bigger teen who loved it again. For me, it’s relaxing to be in front of a camera. Sure it’s a lot of hard work, but it pays off. BLEH. Loosing track again. I loved the camera and wanted to broaden my horizons. That’s basically it.
How do like modeling so far?
It’s a lot of fun and a creative outlet for me. I always enjoy coming up with themes, crazy outfits, wigs. But I also enjoy the very simple things. It feels like second nature to me. Why wouldn’t I like something that I’m, relatively, good at and makes me feel good? EXACTLY.
Where do you hope to take this?
I WILL ONE DAY HAVE WORLD DOMINATION.
I’m hoping to take my modeling farther. Along with the cosplay/singing/dancing/acting act as well. I think they all fit together well so hopefully it’ll all work out in harmonyyyyyyyy~ I am however hoping to look into being a “booth babe” or promotional model for a gaming company sometime.
Are there any other things you’re looking into for the future?
I’ve always been interested in being a Make-up Artist as well as a fashion merchandiser. So perhaps I’ll dabble there as well. I dabble in a lot of things. Like that one time!…
