Interview with Chocomelo Fancyconduct
Creative street fashion exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s. Teens can be seen dressed in many fashion styles ranging from Lolita, Gothic Lolita,Visual Kei, Ganguro, Gyaru, Kogal, and “cute” Kawaii style clothing. Frequently styles created on the streets effect fashion trends worldwide.
One of the influential practitioners of street style in Japan is Chocomelo Fancyconduct. She is a master of mixing and creating her own clothing styles and accessories. Favoring cute clothes she is a regular on the street in a pallette of light purple, pink, light yellow, pastel color and soft things.
Not only is she the subject of photographs she is a photographer herself and documents people, events and the fashion trends around her that catch her eye.
It is a pleasure to meet you. I would like to ask you how you came up with such a delightful name and what does it mean?
It is a made up name. It is a way of expressing the way I gather things together I love to express myself creatively with clothing and accessories. It is my style!
When did you first become interested in fashion?
I began to become interested in fashion and dressing up about 3 years ago. I liked the creativity of finding clothing that was colorful and fun!
Was your early interest different that your interests now?
In the beginning I began to dress Lolita but I found it was limiting. I wanted to expand and explore other things. To experiment.
Can you describe your style now?
I try not and limit my style to any one thing. I keep an open mind and I enjoy watching what other people do. I love visiting shops and looking at styles of my friends and others in the street. Two people I get ideas from are DJ Chihiro and DJ Sisen. I like to create fashions that have not been done before!
You are also into the underground and music scene. Tell us a little about some of your favorite events and musicians?
I frequently attend the events of Artism. They help create events to promote and spread artists and musicians work.
You are also a photographer. What are some of your favorite subjects to photograph?
I enjoy taking photographs of my friends and of myself. Many of my photos are of fashion and musicans that I know.

What are some of your favorite colors?
Pastels, purple, red purple, lilac, pink, navy blue, and silver. I also like ribbons, glitter, checkered, stripes, polka dots, stars, and snow.
What do you hope people think when seeing you?
My dream is increase people enjoying fashion. I wish there were more individuals expressing themselves and their personalities!
