Interview with DJ Misloop

DJ Misloop (Janet Xue) was born in Tianjin,China.

She began working as a lighting specialist in 2004 but soon discovered her love for electronic music when it was first introduced to her innocent teenage earholes in the late 90ʼs. She taught herself how to play music and started to play music for some clubs & bars in Tianjin, China.

In 2005 she was DJing full time and began to played for 3 years in the Scarlet Club. She was invited to be guest DJ for some parties and music festivals in Beijing and Shanghai. During this time, she created her own music style and built a large fan base. From 2008 to 2012 she was the Music Director at the Sitong Club which gained her a lot of experience in club management.

At the end of 2008,DJ Misloop won the second runner up in Pioneer DJ Competition. She is the first female DJ to have won this title. The competition developed her personal music style and also helped build her a wider social network and fan base. She loves to connect with other with DJs and loves to exchange her thoughts about music with different kinds of people to broaden and strengthen her technique and style.

Some of the leading artists in the electronic music industry have voiced their respect for her live performance skills and called them “some of the best in the business”. Her music shares her love for soulful and her music styles range from Tech House, Techno, Electro. (The clubs are crazy for her rhythm.)

She is producing her own tracks at the moment. She believes that music is the best thing ever happened in her life. She will never stop loving music. It is her life.

Janet, if is a pleasure meeting you. You were born in Tianjin, China. Can you tell us a little about what it is like there?

Tianjin is a coastal city which is just next to Beijing. Its an ancient city with lots of ancient buildings and a lot of history. So this city is mixed with old style and modern style.

There is a development economy area at the coast so there are many big companies from abroad.

When you were growing up was music part of your life? Who did you listen to?

Yes of course. At first I was a big fan of Daft Punk and some famous DJ’s and Electronic music producers’ such as Tiesto, Andy C, Krafty Kuts etc. I liked different type of music.

What is the music scene like in Tianjin?

Of course most of the people like pop music. I think it’s the same all around the world but there are still some private electronic music parties here.

You were working in lighting and you were drawn to music. What attracted you and how did you teach yourself?

While I was working in lighting I started to be interested in DJ coz I like music so I started to do a lot of research on the internet and then tried to mix my own music.

How would you best describe your style?

Tech house/Techno/Electro

What do you like to do to get the crowd pumped up?

Just my feel of the music but it really depends on my mood.

Can you tell us a little about the equipment you use?

Traktor, Ableton Live, Novation keyboard,etc.

Any interesting projects coming up you can share with us?

I’m taking a break right now coz I played too many parties before, lol but I’m still working on producing music. Sometimes I play in Beijing and Shanghai.

What are your plans for the future?

Produce my own mixed music more.

What advice would you give to someone who wanted to DJ?

Be in love with music first.
