Interview with Shruthi J
Young, ambitious, energetic and talented would only half sum up the force and energy that is known as Shruthi. She has been an inspiration to many young musicians and has broken boundaries and walls and built bridges to carry her musical talent worldwide. She also has won AIM and VIMA awards.
How would you best describe your music?
My music is mostly of a baseline pop genre with a bit of R&B and hip-hop influence. The sole purpose of my music is to make people happy and to help my listeners channel positive energy and vibes into their everyday lives. So you can say that the best way to describe my music is to call it “Happy Music”
If you had the chance to perform anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Well…my dream stage would of course be the Grammy’s! I have always wanted to perform at the Grammy’s because it is definitely the highest platform a singer could ever get and it would be an honour and a blessing to be able to perform there.
What are your songs about?
My songs are about the moment. About the present. It’s all about positivity!!! Nowadays all of us are living such dramatic, hurried and stressful lives and my songs are about approaching our lives with inspiration and with a positive attitude. I’m not saying be all optimistic about everything but my songs are about reality and being happy with what we have.
Share with us two of your favourite quotes.
“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness and life to everything.” – Plato
“Two roads diverged in a wood and I…I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference.” – Robert Frost
You look into the crystal ball and see your future. What does it say?
I see myself doing what I love best…performing! And making great music and entertaining people. Just making a difference and putting a smile on someone’s face
What is your advice to up and coming musicians?
My advice to all up and coming musicians is to persevere, persevere and persevere! Never give up on your dreams and never ever ever doubt yourself!!! Remember that you are unique and you are special and you can do ANYTHING if you work hard and sacrifice little things to reach your goals.
What are your thoughts on music piracy?Would you give your music away for free?
Piracy is murder – the butchering of someone’s hard work and it is disrespectful. It is not the same as giving away music for free…I mean I would give away my music to underprivileged people for free…because they need it and it could just make someone’s day. It isn’t like piracy.
