Interview with Reno

RENO, is a Malaysian Chinese Female singer who was born to be a greatest performer on stage. She has been on the stage for more than ten years with her powerful voice. Her fans and supporters are increasing and she’s performed over a thousand live show in her singing career.

RENO launched her FIRST debut album - Reno (ONE CHANCE) on 15th May 2009 after a 10 year wait.

She was nominated and won “THE BEST CHINESE ACT” in 2010 Malaysia VIMA 2010 (Voice Independents Music Award)

How would you best describe your music?

My music is combination of Western pop music elements with Chinese act.

If you had a chance to perform anywhere in the world, where would that be and why?

I would say Japan, because popular music in post-war Japan has been heavily influenced by American and European trends, which has led to the evolution of J-pop or Japanese popular music. So it will be another level for me to move further up and to explore and learn different elements of music.

If you had a chance to collaborate with any musician on the planet, who would it be and why?

If I have a chance, I would like to collaborate with David Foster. He is a record producer, composer, singer, song writer and arranger. He has discovered many famous singers such as Michael Bublé, Josh Groban, and Charice Pempengco; and for producing some of the most successful artists in the world, such as Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Céline Dion, Andrea Bocelli, Toni Braxton, Madonna, Air Supply and Michael Jackson. He has won 16 Grammy Awards from 47 nominations. It would be a dream come true and the highest honour If i got a chance to collaborate with him.

What would you like to be remembered for?

I want my voice to be remembered by the public. In my opinion, a successful singer’s voice should be easily recognized.

Which local musicians in your country do you most admire and why?

I would say my producer Mr Anco is someone that I admire, because of his enthusiasm in music, and he has guided me in my singing career. My collaboration with him led to my win as best Chinese act at the VIMA awards 2010.

What are your songs about?

My songs express the real life problems people face in their family, career and love affairs. The reoccurrence of unpleasant setbacks result in conflicts, anxiety and angst within people’s heart but their faith continues in maintaining an optimistic attitude in pursuit of a dream to strive and transform from a cocoon into a beautiful butterfly.
